二十一世纪帕瓦罗蒂接班人，意大利籍男高音—里契特拉，在本世纪已成为当今最重要男高音之一，是继帕瓦罗蒂，第一位拥有如此壮丽及干净声音的男高音，在纽约大都会歌剧院、意大利斯卡拉歌剧院、维罗那剧场、以及许多欧洲知名歌剧圣地早已受到广大的瞩目。
自1999年里契特拉首演于斯卡拉剧院，演出由指挥大师慕提muti指挥《命运之力》后，即成为斯卡拉剧院的首席男高音，深受慕提赏识。米兰并颁给里契特拉荣誉国民奖章。2002年5月12日，帕瓦罗蒂于纽约大都会歌剧院《托斯卡》开演前两小时，因病取消演出。临时由当时三十三岁年轻男高音里契特拉(salvatore licitra)代替帕瓦罗蒂演出，里契特拉唱完第一首难度较高的咏叹调时，观众给予了四十三秒的热烈掌声，第三幕咏叹调结束又获得了四十六秒的掌声，谢幕时观众给予长达两分半钟的起立鼓掌。美国媒体大力赞誉：「一个明星已诞生」、「里契特拉将接替帕瓦罗蒂」、「第四男高音」、「歌剧界改朝换代之开始，或许就在这一天」；纽约时报：「能以极度细腻刻画绵长的极弱音句子」、「这是个有深沉男中音音色的意大利男高音，有明亮的高音域，其稳定强壮的高音更展现真正意大利男高音传统」……。

not too long ago, salvatore licitra was an aspiring graphic artist in italy. his only connection to luciano pavarotti and the world of italian opera was his italian heritage. today, he stands as an heir to one of music’s most venerable thrones ╟ that of the italian “dramatic” tenor. a charismatic artist, licitra “is indeed the likeliest successor to the two dominant tenors of our time,” wrote the new york observer. “he has that unforced elegance of line, command of mezza voce, and the capacity to adjust the timbre of his voice to suit the requisite emotion.”
born in switzerland to sicilian parents, licitra grew up in milan. at age 19 he decided to forego his job to begin vocal studies. it turned out to be a fortuitous decision. having established himself in the demanding dramatic italian repertory, he has shown his “worthiness of the great italian tradition” (the new york times) with a repertory that encompasses the heroic works of verdi (aida, un ballo in maschera, ernani, la forza del destino & il trovatore) and puccini (la fanciulla del west, il tabarro, tosca & turandot), bel canto opera (bellini’s norma) as well as the verismo works of giordano’s andrea chenier, leoncavallo’s i pagliacci and mascagni’s cavalleria rusticana. at the metropolitan opera in winter 2007 not only did licitra sing his own assignment ╟ i.e. the leoncavallo opera -- he also agreed on short notice to sing the mascagni opera on the same evening for an indisposed colleague. in doing so, he became the sixth tenor in the company’s history to sing both works in one evening. a graduate of parma’s “corsi veridiani” founded by famed italian tenor carlo bergonzi, licitra made his 1998 professional debut at the teatro regio in un ballo in maschera. his reputation began to grow when he inaugurated the arena di verona season later that year and made his la scala the following season in la forza del destino with riccardo muti conducting. however, it was his assumption of luciano pavarotti’s “farewell” met performance on one hour’s notice that brought licitra worldwide acclaim. the associated press wrote on its international wire, “it’s just the beginning…. licitra’s solo blow lasted two and one-half minutes. in a rare gesture, the management turned on the auditorium lights to let him bask in the glow of the audience’s enthusiasm.” it was “the most triumphant met debuts in recent memory.”
in spring 2007, licitra returns to the metropolitan opera for puccini’s il tabarro, part of a new il trittico conducted by james levine. thereafter, he returns to the vienna state opera for giordani’s andrea chénier before going to london’s royal opera for tosca. the latter also serves as his calling card for norway opera debut this june.
